Hi, I’m Mayor Mario Avery.
Mario Avery began his career as a Contract Compliance professional 24 years ago at the City of Atlanta. He was responsible for monitoring and overseeing the $400+ million construction project for the 5th runway at Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta Airport. Currently, Mario serves as a Contract Compliance Administrator for Fulton County Government where he manages a team overseeing the Non-Discrimination in Purchasing & Contracting Procurement Policies. Mr. Avery served on the City of Fairburn’s City Council for five years. He went on to serve as Mayor for two terms from 2010 to 2017. His tenure as Mayor included bringing major businesses to Fairburn (Google, Smuckers and Duracell) that resulted in numerous jobs.
Mario’s commitment to family and youth resulted in a $12 million dollar upgrade to Duncan Park that employed high school and college students as lifeguards. His dedication to financial responsibility resulted in the city acquiring a bond rating equivalent to a personal credit score of 800. Mario increased the annual fall festival attendance from 500 to 25,000 people during his two terms, while increasing the parade participants to over 5,000.
Mr. Avery is a proud former service member of the U.S. Army. His tenure includes tours in Korea and Saudi Arabia. Mario served as both an enlisted soldier and a Commissioned Officer during his military service. He is a war veteran that served in Desert Storm. Mario is a graduate of Morris Brown College and obtained his MBA from Grand Canyon University. He lives in Fairburn with his beautiful wife Diana and they are members of World Changers Church International.
